Rich McCormick offered me a bet during an interview on @AccessNGA this week. I accepted, and challenged him to make it $1.59 million. Rich is all in on data centers, and the biggest data center super PAC picked him as one of its first endorsements. Here in North Georgia, Republicans and Democrats agree: if a corporation wants to build here, the deal has to protect our water tables, our power grid and our infrastructure. The promised jobs, tax revenue and community investment need to be in the contract, not just in a sales pitch. Our tax dollars pay for that infrastructure, and government’s job is to stand between us and the corporation. Rich’s response? Anyone who opposes data centers is a “paid protester from China.” Then he floated putting data centers on military bases, because a base can’t say no. We have one right here: Camp Merrill in Lumpkin County. A data center there still runs on our grid and draws from our water. I raised this at our Lumpkin County debate.
